Christmas and New Year Holidays

The Limesharp office will be closed from Christmas Eve at around lunch time until we re-open fully on Monday 4th January 2010.

Emergency Support

We will provide an emergency support service during the Christmas and New Year period. If you have an emergency issue you may email support@limesharp.net - this will log your issue into our support system which will be checked most days. You may also log non-critical support tickets but it is unlikely that they will be responded to until we return on January 4th.

We are offering emergency cover by phone for customers on SLA support contracts. Simply contact us on our main London office number which is 0845 5202 500 and your call will be routed to a member of staff on their mobile. Please note that this is for emergency use for customers on SLA support contracts only.

Hosting

Our Rackspace hosting environment is fully managed and monitored by Rackspace Engineers 24/7/365. In the unlikely event of hardware failure there is a 1 hour fix guarantee plus many components are redundant so even in the event of a failure your website would continue to operate. Thus hosting hardware is fully maintained and we will know automatically of any website fail and will resolve this promptly.

Cross-Sells and Upsells Explained

We often get asked the difference between a cross-sell and an upsell in Magento. Linda Bustos of Get Elastic posted an excellent article explaining the difference. This is well worth a read.

As a footnote, Magento also supports “Related Products” in addition to cross-sells and upsells. They are typically cross-sells however they can be positioned on the product page as opposed to the cart page. In most of our sites we omit this feature, as we feel you can sometimes go overboard with cross-selling which detracts from overall usability. However on some occasions cross-sells on a product page may be beneficial, or even preferential to having them on the cart page.

Top 10 Traits of Successful Ecommerce Websites

I have been thinking a lot lately as to what it is that separates online stores that do OK, from online stores that do extremely well. In my 10 years of designing ecommerce websites I have noticed some very clear differences between the sites that seem to do well, and those that don’t. Most of this stuff isn’t rocket science, yet many businesses seem to be getting it wrong. This post is designed to be a little push in the right direction for businesses who feel they could be getting a little more out of their ecommerce website. (more…)

Our Magento Wish List

After the great response to our post “10 Things We Love About Magento” we thought we’d follow up with a post about the features and functionality we’d like to see added to Magento in 2009. The importance of a good logo and branding

I recently read an excellent article on Web Designer Depot discussing how NOT to design a logo. I won’t regurgitate what was already written there - it’s essentially talking about the shortcuts some businesses take to get a low-cost logo designed, and the pitfalls of adopting such an approach. Great article, well worth a read.

We talk to a lot of people who come to us with a great idea for a new website or online business, and as part of this they want a logo designed. (more…)
