Converting an e-commerce site to an m-commerce app is of dubious value unless it really adds compelling extra value that can be viral in nature. It is a great dream to 'lock in' our customers but getting an app on their phone to exclusion of our competitors but the only way that will happen is with the killer 'extension' - as you allude to, the bit of functionality that cannot be implemented in web tech but can be done with code on a mobile OS. The danger here is to find that bit of functionality before spending time and money creating something that doesn't tip people over into using an app rather than a website. All depends on the nature of your business, its products and how people interact with your marketing. Some very hard decisions are ahead for a lot of business owners on what to do. - Shaun.
